HISTORY

Maynard Nursing Home is situated on Halton Street, in a pocket of pointy-gabled Victorian houses in the heart of the Portuguese district of Ossington and Dundas.

Mr. William Levach, a meat packing magnate, built his dream home in 1892.The Victorian mansion with its jutting façade of rose - coloured sandstone, its softly coloured turret and decorative masonry is still as grand today as when it was built. The long entrance hallway is paneled in oak and the walls are covered with plaster plaques swirling with art décor. The panel of delicately entwined stained glass adorns the massive Oriental influenced oak staircase.

In 1961 this magnificent historical home underwent major construction. An addition was built at the rear of the property to create the space required for the 77 - bed nursing home. Some of the rooms at the front of the home were renovated to increase the square footage and to allow for the installation of modern conveniences, yet the character of the mansion remains intact.

The 30 rooms are laid out on two floors. There are three types of furnished rooms: Private (1 bed), Semi-Private (2 beds) and Standard (4 beds). Each of the floors is equipped with a dining room, television lounge, bathroom and shower room. The lower level comprise of the main dining room, the business offices, kitchen, laundry and activity rooms.
